Dr. Stephen Harvey

Dr. Stephen Harvey, a leading Egyptologist, has directed the Ahmose and Tetisheri Project at Abydos since 1993, under the Pennsylvania-Yale-Institute of Fine Arts, NYU Expedition. His excavations of King Ahmose’s pyramid complex (ca. 1550-1525 B.C.) have revealed temples, the pyramid of Queen Tetisheri, and insights into the Hyksos expulsion and New Kingdom architecture. With a Ph.D. in Egyptian Archaeology from the University of Pennsylvania (1998) and a B.A. from Yale University (1987), Dr. Harvey has worked in Egypt (Giza, Memphis), the U.S., Syria, and Turkey since 1987. He has consulted for documentaries on PBS’s Nova, History Channel, National Geographic, and appeared in “La vie secrète des Pharaons” (2022) and “Unearthed” (2016).
